Regarding Orders:  As per the recent announcements regarding continued school closures we wanted to reassure our customers that any orders that were processed before the closures are being held until they can be safely delivered when schools and libraries reopen. 

Any orders received during the shut down will be processed and held until schools reopen.

Regarding Quotes:  For those who are concerned about budgets during these uncertain times, we have made some changes to our quote protocols. 
Effective immediately, any list that is "quoted" on our website will lock in prices until: July 31st, 2020  or60 days from the date of the quote, whichever is later
Pro Forma invoices can be provided to schools who have budgets that need to be spent prior to the end of the current school year and books can be held for delivery when schools reopen.

Regarding COVID-19 and Canadian School Board Closures

CLUB Read: Visual Literacy Ninety percent of the information we take in every day is visual. Your students are constantly viewing illustrations, pictures, art, diagrams, and text. Visual literacy will help them decode, understand, and communicate better with the world around them. So, what do you look for when choosing books for your students to teach them about visual literacy?  

Critical aspects of teaching this skill include complexity of ideas, rich illustrations, themes, layers of meaning, and a variety of text type. These elements require skills to negotiate the complex interplay between visual clues within images and text, as well as the visual expression of the written word.

Illustrated fiction books prompt readers to explore allusions, cryptic symbols, and possibly hidden text in the artwork. Non-fiction books featuring bright photos and creative text displays such as boxes, sidebars, and magazine-style formatting are interesting, and give the reader several avenues with which to…

Lesser-Known Heroes

Learn about these lesser-known heroes during Black History Month in February During Black History Month, we celebrate the African-American story. As with all history, it's a rich pageant of players both famous and obscure. While we've all heard of such icons as Frederick DouglassMartin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, many others, less famous, have nevertheless carried the torch of freedom and advancement for all. Here are a few of these heroes:
Claudette Colvin (b. 1939): On March 2, 1955--nine months before Rosa Parks--15-year-old high school student Colvin was arrested for refusing to relinquish her seat on a Montgomery, Ala., bus to a white woman. Her act of civil disobedience eventually helped overturn Alabama's segregation laws.
Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831-1895): In 1864, the Delaware native became the first U.S. black woman to earn a medical degree. She founded a Boston practice for poor women and children, and wrote a related medical manual.
